Step 4: Take a look at veterinary schools and what it takes to become a veterinarian

Did you know that to become a veterinarian you have to go to a Veterinary Medical College after you finish college? Veterinary schools teach you what you need to know to be a practicing veterinarian. Just like doctors go to special schools after college to become doctors, veterinarians do as well.

Each step has multiple choices. Pick one choice (unless it says otherwise) to complete. Inspired? Do more than one!

1.

Find the closest vet school to you. Go to their website and find their mission statement. What are their specialties? And areas of research? Feel free to continue to look around their website at other areas that interest you!

2.

Watch "Advice for Prevets from Professionals"  found here. Find out where they went to school and what type of veterinarian they are. Also think about what you think is the best piece of advice.

3.

Interview a veterinarian. Find out about their education. What was their major in college and how did that help in vet school? What sort of extracurricular activities did they do in college and vet school (job, volunteering, internship)? Where did they go to vet school and why did they choose that particular school? What are some examples of classes that they took and why did they find them interesting?
